illion
illion is an Australian credit reporting bureau, formerly Dun & Bradstreet Australia and New Zealand, that holds both personal and commercial credit files. Experian completed its $820 million purchase of illion in October 2024. Personal credit reports are now handled through Experian, while the illion name continues on business credit products.
Quick answer: illion’s personal credit score has run from 0 to 1,000: 800 to 1,000 excellent, 700 to 799 great, 500 to 699 good, 300 to 499 fair, and below 300 low. Lenders may use illion, Equifax or Experian, and each scores differently, so the same person can show different numbers. Business lenders check the business file and each director’s personal file. On our lender panel, some unsecured lenders decline a director score below about 500.
What illion holds
- Personal credit files: credit enquiries, accounts, repayment history and defaults
- Business credit files: company and ABN details, defaults, court actions and trade payment data
- Court judgments and insolvency records
Why your illion score differs from Equifax
Each bureau collects slightly different data from different lenders and uses its own scale and model. An illion score of 700 and an Equifax score of 700 do not mean the same thing. When a lender quotes a minimum score, ask which bureau it uses, and compare like with like. Our credit score entry covers the scales side by side.
How business lenders use it
For a business loan, the director’s personal file often matters as much as the business file, especially for sole traders and new companies. A string of recent enquiries, a default or a missed repayment can trigger a decline at a lender that scores automatically, while another lender will look at the reason. A broker can match the file to the right lender before an application adds another enquiry.
